We’re a group of friends who have played lacrosse together for years. Since 2016 we’ve fished the Chesapeake every November to support Fish For A Cure. This is our eleventh year, we’re closer to $1,000,000 than any of us thought possible, and we have the chance to be the first boat to get there. We can only do it with you. One hundred percent of donations go to Fish For A Cure and the cancer support services at Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center.

It started with a love of Lacrosse (Lax). We played together and against each other — some of us since before high school, all of us around here.

In 2016 we entered Fish For A Cure looking for a reason to keep showing up for each other. Most of us have hung up the sticks since. A few stubborn holdouts haven’t. Either way the boat goes out every November, and that day on the water is how a group of friends stays a group of friends: some fishing, a few drinks, and real money for people in our community facing cancer.

Nobody planned this part. Our first year we raised $8,751. The idea that we’d one day be closing in on $1,000,000 would have gotten a laugh out of every one of us.

Every dollar goes to the Cancer Survivorship Program at Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center’s Geaton and JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute. These programs are donor-funded, which is another way of saying they exist because people like you pay for them — nurse navigation, nutrition counseling, oncology rehabilitation, and psychosocial support for more than 2,000 patients and families a year. They live in Annapolis, Severna Park, and the towns around this Bay.

The tournament

Fish For A Cure 2026

F4AC is a fishing tournament and fundraising challenge on the Chesapeake Bay, followed by a Shore Party in Annapolis. Since it began, the event has raised more than $7.7 million for cancer care — including a record $1.2 million in 2025.
